Topological semimetal in honeycomb lattice LnSI.
Recognized as elementary particles in the standard model, Weyl fermions in condensed matter have received growing attention. However, most of the previously reported Weyl semimetals exhibit rather complicated electronic structures that, in turn, may have raised questions regarding the underlying physics. Here, we report promising topological phases that can be realized in specific honeycomb lat...
متن کاملFermionic Atoms with Tunable Interactions in a 3d Optical Lattice
The exploration of quantum degenerate gases of fermionic atoms is driven by the ambition to gain deeper insight into long-standing problems of quantum many-body physics. So far, however, the analogy to an electron gas in a solid is limited since there the electrons experience a periodic lattice potential. The lattice structure is in fact a key ingredient for most models describing quantum many-...
متن کاملElectronic and optical properties of topological semimetal Cd3As2
Using ab initio density functional theory the band structure and the dielectric function of a bct Cd3As2 crystal are calculated. We find a Dirac semimetal with two Dirac nodes k± near the Γ point on the tetragonal axis. The bands near the Fermi level exhibit a linear behavior. The resulting Dirac cones are anisotropic and the electron-hole symmetry is destroyed along the tetragonal axis. Along ...
متن کاملWeyl semimetal in a topological insulator multilayer.
We propose a simple realization of the three-dimensional (3D) Weyl semimetal phase, utilizing a multilayer structure, composed of identical thin films of a magnetically doped 3D topological insulator, separated by ordinary-insulator spacer layers. We show that the phase diagram of this system contains a Weyl semimetal phase of the simplest possible kind, with only two Dirac nodes of opposite ch...
متن کاملFermionic topological charge of families of lattice gauge fields
the degree of φ : S → SU(N), where S is the 3sphere “at infinity” in R. The topological charge has a fermionic description: by the Index Theorem, Q = index(%∂ ) where %∂ A is the Dirac operator coupled to A. The situation is similar for gauge fields on compact manifolds such as S, T , . . . Consider now a family A of SU(N) gauge fields on the 4-torus T 4 parameterized by y ∈ Y (a smooth paramet...
